The Vozelj queen-breeding station is located in beautiful, pristine sunny surroundings, so the queen-rearing conditions are very good. We have been keeping bees for 42 years, and for the past 22 years we have also been rearing queens. We have achieved a high-quality level of pure-line Carniolan queen rearing, which we will also try to continue in the future.
If you would like to visit our queen-breeding station, it is best to set out from Šmartno or Litija and, from there, to the villages of Zavrstnik and Štangarske Poljane. There, turn right towards Velika Štanga, and follow the well-marked route with the signs for the beekeeping nature trails.
Bees build queen cells on special bars, to which we first attach queen cell cups made of virgin beeswax in order to rear queens in the most natural way possible. We rear between 1,000 and 2,000 queens a year, depending on the demand.
We use three kinds of nucs: two are wooden, and the third is made of more insulating materials. They contain two, three, or five frames.
We rear Carniolan queens under the supervision of the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia. The quality of our queens satisfies our customers, providing the outstanding features they want in calm, hard-working bees.
